Classes

For 2024, Finnish Racing Championship has expanded to have more categories. Ranging from the motorcycle-engined Legends cars all the way to the rumbling V8 Thunders, there is something for everyone.

Legends

Legends cars originate from the United States and are loosely based on the traditional American coupes and sedans of the 1930s and 40s. Powered by high-revving motorcycle engines, the small and nimble cars can accelerate from 0-100 kph in around four seconds. Top speed varies by gear ratios, but is generally around 140 – 200 km/h. The category is known for big grids, bumper to bumper racing, and unexpected results.

V1600

When it comes to motorsports, V1600 is definitely one of the most cost-effective ways of competing. Yet the category offers the opportunity to learn setting up a car in multiple ways. The category is based on a maximum 1.600 cc road cars from the 2000s. The engines produce around 120-140 break horsepower and the race spec suspension create very cost-effective and sensible racers out of modern cars. The cars in this category include Mini One, Toyota Yaris, Kia Ceed, Honda Civic, and VW Lupo.

V8 Thunder

Originating from Sweden, V8 Thunder is a high-performance category consisting of silhouette cars that share their looks with iconic muscle and sports cars. Powered by LS3 V8 engines, the iconic cars are spectacular to watch and provide good racing. Around 500 horsepower is transferred to the rear wheel via four-speed H-pattern gearboxes. The cars seen in the category are Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, Audi RS3, and Dodge Challenger.

BMW Xtreme Race

BMW Xtreme began its story in 2007 and has since provided young drivers the opportunity to race with a cost-efficient, race-ready and rear-wheel-driven race car. The BMW Xtreme cars can be driven the year driver turns 15. Cars in this category are two or four door E36-model BMW 325s. The 2,5 litre inline six engine puts out around 210 horsepower.

FRC GT Open

New for 2024, the FRC GT Open brings the fastest and most spectacular machinery on the same grid. With modern, factory-built race cars such as the global TCR category touring cars and Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars expected on the field, they’ll be facing off with the fastest cars built for local rules such as TGT or Super Saloon. Cars built for these regulations range from BMW M1s and M3s, Chevrolet Corvette C6s and Acura RSX Type Rs as well as V8 Thunder cars.

This category does not race for the Finnish Championship title, but is contested on a national level instead.

Legends Harraste

Legends Harraste is the entry-level Legends competition for newcomers. Often contested with rented cars from the SM runners, the category is the definition of ease of entry into racing with a Legends car. This category does not race for the Finnish Championship title either, but is contested on a national level instead.
