Finnish Racing Championship (FRC), the premier racing series in Finland, is set for an exciting 2024 season, as FRC and Rata SM series will have joint calendars. Racing under FRC banner, the Championship classes will be V1600, Legends, TCR Finland, V8 Thunder, and BMW Xtreme Race. These classes will be joined by national level classes The Gran Turismo, showcasing various sports and touring cars, and Legends Harraste as an easy entry into Legends championship. Furthermore, Endurance Cup is joining a set number of race weekends in 2024.
FRC series promoter and AKK-Sports’ racing division have developed the concept of the series by jointing the FRC and Rata SM series together. The calendar, consisting of five rounds, has been designed with cost-efficiency in mind, for both competitors and race organisers.
-We had a good cooperation with the road racing series in Finland last year, and I thank all parties involved. The three races held organised together showcased that the cooperation worked. However, we must focus now on working with our own field. The decision was made together, and we keep our doors open for cooperation in the future, as we now have good data and experience on what it takes to host a race together, FRC promoter Mika Heinonen says.
A new format is unveiled for 2024, in which the Finnish Championship classes race on Saturday with practises to be held during Friday. National level classes and Endurance Cup are to race on Sundays, with Endurance Cup to be hosted in some of the FRC weekends. Set dates are to be announced later.
Finnish Racing Championship season starts from Kemora in May, followed up by Hämeenlinna’s traditional Ahvenisto in June, which saw record crowds at the season-finale of this year, Copart FRC Ahvenisto. In July it’s time for Botniaring in Jurva before the series ventures to Estonia for the ever-so popular and well-received Estonian Grand Prix. The season concludes in September on the new, lengthened Alastaro Circuit.
